A Very British Education
By Kevin Sacco
A Very British Education is a graphic memoir looking back at an American boy’s coming of age in pre-Thatcher/Vietnam-era Britain.
When Sacco’s father accepts an advertising job in London, Sacco leaves his Upper West Side home in New York to engage in a “very British” education. First thrown into the spartan and rigorous culture of a British boarding school, he then attends a London art college where his creative spirit is nurtured by a very different culture.
At its heart, A Very British Education is Sacco’s tribute to the institutions and people who embraced him as a young Yank.
After finishing his schooling in England, Kevin Sacco returned to the United States to work in the advertising business as a storyboard artist. His first graphic novel, The Plane Story, was published in 2011, followed by Josephine (2017), White Night (2019), Sevenoaks (2021) and A Simple Truth (2023).
