Empire, Betrayal, and Hope
By Suella Braverman

“Where are you from?”
“London.”
“No, where are you from?”
“Oh! I see. Wembley.”
“No. I mean, where are you really from?”
I love and dread this conversation. I’ve had it thousands of times. People don’t want to know about Wembley or London. No. They want to know where I’m really from. And the answer isn’t a short one.

MP, former Cabinet Minister, Ex-Barrister – Suella Braverman is a leading figure in British public life and has spent over a decade in frontline politics. Now, for the first time, she tells her story.  Beginning in 19th century India, Suella’s background encompasses Mauritius, Kenya, French Creole and Portuguese Goa. She writes about how the British Empire was a force for good for her ancestors, her parents’ migration in the 1960s and growing up in Thatcher’s Britain.

In this book, as in her public statements, Suella writes about her time in elected politics and government, exposes the Great Betrayals of the last Conservative government and sets out her vision for a stronger, safer and more prosperous Britain. Through it all, one thing is constant: her gratitude to Great Britain and British patriots.

About Suella Braverman

In 2026, Suella left the Conservative Party after thirty years and joined Reform UK for which she is the party’s Education, Skills and Equalities Spokesman. Prior to serving in elected politics, Suella worked as a Barrister for a decade. She studied Law at Queens’ College, Cambridge and the Sorbonne.
